Homemade Nachos – Peoria, IL

In a recent family get together my husband graciously offered to make nachos for the family to include on the blog.  Most of the family LOVE nachos so this was a big treat for us (dad even enjoyed some of the chips).

Toppings:  Pretty standard for nachos including black beans, cheese, tomatoes, black olives, and chicken.  There were green chiles, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa served on the side.  The guacamole was homemade and was truly excellent, and the chicken was grilled a couple days earlier with rosemary.  My sister mentioned how she really liked how he had kept certain toppings on the side so she could effectively create her own nacho experience with every bite!!  5/5

Toppings to Chip Ratio – This was done very well and Andy used a unique process of layering the chips with cheese to ensure that all chips had toppings!  I wish restaurants did this more.  4.5/5

Freshness: The addition of tomatoes and the freshness of the guacamole helped in this category but felt it could have used a couple other fresh ingredients like cilantro, or pico de gallo.  4/5

Crunchiness of Chips:  The chips were as good as can be expected from store bought chips (which is why I had to knock it down .5 of a point) but the nice thing was the execution around layering the chips with toppings which ensured all chips stayed crunchy and no one chip had too many toppings!!  4.5/5

Creativeness:  I gave Andy all five stars for being creative with looking in the fridge and using up leftovers for these nachos and also the layering technique!  5/5

I may be biased but I these nachos received 23.5 stars out of 25!  Can’t wait to have more!
